Working Safely Site Safety is a team effort and it is not the responsibility of one person alone. You will be required to sign as having read and understood this briefing – if in doubt ASK. NextAbout The Site This induction covers a number of key areas for consideration and your personal legal responsibilities whilst working with us. General Idea is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare, so far as reasonably practicable, of all persons (including Employees, contractors and visitors) at its workplaces and affected by its activities. All employees, contractors and invitees have a legal responsibility to co-operate with managers and to take reasonable care of themselves and others in order to assist General Idea maintain a healthy and safe workplace. NextAccessing The Site Pedestrian Access is through West Pennington Street. There are two loading bays at the venue, please ensure you use the correct one allotted at time of booking. Wrist Bands will be issued on completion of the site induction. NextSmoking & Vaping Smoking and/or vaping are ONLY permitted in designated areas.NextPersonal Music Devices When working on site please do NOT use personal headsets with music or phone connected – your attention will be elsewhere and you put yourself and others in danger. Keep your mind on your work – NO radios, personal stereos, mobile phones etc. If using a mobile phone, move away from the work area and remain static so you can see what is going on around you and you can be seen.NextDrugs & Alcohol We have have a ZERO tolerance of drugs and/or alcohol whilst working on site.NextAccident Reporting & First Aid Accidents and Near Misses MUST be reported to Production. The Site First Aid Kit is held at the site Safety Case located on site. There are qualified First Aiders on site if required. Contact the Production Manager who will get assistance more quickly to you. For major accidents call 999 and the Production Manager as they will need to guide the ambulance onto the site. Any and all incidents/accidents that take place at the venue must be reported to TDVL’s Duty Operations Manager. If an accident occurs that results in personal injury or property damage, the service provider shall immediately contact TDVL’s Event Operations Team.NextNearest Hopsital The Nearest Hospital is: The Royal London Hospital Whitechapel Road, Whitechapel, London, E1 1FR Tel: 0207 377 7000NextPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) PPE is to be worn whilst in work areas on site. Additional Task Specific PPE may be required as per your Risk Assessment. TDVL require all staff to wear hi-vis jackets and closed toe shoes at all times during build and de-rig stages. This requirement is in place regardless of the individual’s role, perceived risk and/or location within the Event spaces. All contractors must thoroughly assess what Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in addition to the above, is required to execute their duties.NextVenue Considerations Every necessary precaution must be taken to protect the property of TDVL and the Venue. No activity must take place prior to formal notification from The Client or TDVL that a Venue Sign In/Condition Report has been completed for the relevant space. As a Grade I Listed venue, no attachment, fixings, or alterations can be made to any part of the fabric of the building. Tobacco Dock is a no smoking/vaping All smoking breaks should be taken in the designated (event specific) smoking area communicated as part of the site induction. Parking is not permitted on any loading bay; vehicles should be loading/unloading or move clear of the loading bay. Pedestrian movement should be closely monitored for safety and no items are to be left unattended on the loading dock. All suppliers must bring their own rubber wheeled trollies, pallet trucks or similar to site. TDVL do not keep any on site for use. Use of service corridors for the storage of any equipment is strictly prohibited at all times. All walkways, access points and exits must be kept free from obstruction. Food and beverage purchased outside of the venue is not permitted on site and entry will be refused accordingly. Supervisors/Team Leaders should make themselves known to the TDVL Duty Operations Manager on arrival at and departure from the venue. Any damages must be reported to The Client and TDVL Duty Operations Manager immediately.NextStaff Presence & Behaviour All contracted event staff & crew must arrive in a timely manner at the venue prior to the call time agreed with The Client. All staff are required to wear appropriate work wear. Articles of clothing must be neat and tidy in appearance, and cannot display offensive or inappropriate language, symbols or graphics. TDVL has the right to decide if such clothing is inappropriate. All staff must conduct themselves in a manner that is lawful, courteous, business like, and respectful of all clients, staff and guests. Individual’s must not engage in behaviour that is rude, threatening, or offensive. Use of profane or insulting language is prohibited. Harassment of any type, including sexual harassment is strictly prohibited. Destruction of property, vandalism, littering, or physical abuse of anyone onsite are not permitted under any circumstance. All staff breaks must be notified to and agreed with The Client. During breaks event staff must not loiter on the show floor and should make their way to the staff welfare room or client allocated crew welfare room.NextKey Safety Statements Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the task being carried out MUST be followed at ALL times Ensure that all control measures identified are adhered to Please read all signs and adhere to guidance whilst on site, they are there to keep everyone safe Be aware of others working around you DO NOT enter working zones unless authorised to do so Keep your workplace clear of rubbish and dispose of your waste material in a responsible manner Do not carry out tasks for which you have not been properly trained or that may be a risk to yourself or others Do not operate any equipment, tools etc. for which you have not been properly trained or that may be a risk to yourself or others Do not use defective, faulty or incorrect equipment, nor leave any of them unattended and working where they could be in danger to others Do not interfere or By-Pass any safety devices or automatic cut-out switches Do not carry out any unauthorised adaption or alteration to, or in any way interfere with safety devices or any other equipmentNextKey Safety Statements Ensure that all substances hazardous to health have been subject to a suitable COSHH Risk Assessment Do not interfere with safety infrastructure such as Signage or Fire Fighting Equipment unless tasked to do so Watch where you are going and look out for and avoid anything that may cause you to slip, trip, fall Do not walk, stand or work near anything that could collapse, topple, or fall onto you Don’t walk with your hands in your pockets or where your vision is obstructed and NEVER walk backwards. Don’t work or walk anywhere that is unsafe nor take chances - do NOT let familiarity make you contemptuous of dangerNextWorking at Height - Ladders Working at Height is a HIGH-RISK work activity – ensure that you are fully aware of the Risk Assessment before Working at Height Rigging or climbing hats MUST be worn when working at height – chin straps must be clipped All access equipment MUST be checked before use and fit for purpose – if in doubt, ASK Ladders should only be used for short term (15 – 30min) tasks. Ensure a ladder is the correct piece of access equipment for your job by considering the time frame and reach needed – never work outside of your reach when using a ladder. Always check for defaults, all ladders in use should be properly maintained. Never stand above the top three rungs of the ladder or have a foot either side of the apex. Always face into the ladder, three points of contact and two feet on the ladder at all times. Only one person should work on a ladder at a time, a second person to foot the ladder for you. Place the ladder on a firm, stable surface which is of suitable strength to keep the rungs horizontal. Check the ladder for defects, and make sure that it is only used by people with suitable training. NextWelfare There are dedicated staff toilets on site for your use Please use the handwash/sanitiser facilities installed We request that you use re-useable water bottles to avoid single use plastic – make sure you stay hydrated Crew welfare area is available for your use – please take care of it and keep it tidy NextNextEmergency Procedures Discovering a Fire Anyone discovering or suspecting an outbreak of fire must activate an alarm call point or notify security. Report the location and description of the incident to TDVL Ltd Management, the landlord or Oracle Security who will notify the emergency services. Inform a member of the event management team without delay. NextEmergency Procedures Evacuation If the Fire Alarm sounds continuously; • Evacuate the building via the nearest safe exit (following the green signs.) • Make your way to the Assembly Point - Quayside - Sanded Area. • Make themselves known to the Production Manager and inform them if you have anyone missing, (this is at the Assembly Point). DO NOT: • Stop to collect personal belongings • Re-enter the building unless informed it is safe to do so by the Venue Manager. NextFire Safety Familiarise yourself with the exits around the venue and the Fire Fighting Equipment available. Keep fire exits & fire exit routes clear at all times. DO NOT block any site access points and keep roadways clear at all times. Do not attempt to fight the fire yourself, fire extinguishers should only be used to aid escape. NextSecurity Please be vigilant as regards security, not only for personal items such as tools, but also for equipment and client material, if you believe there is likely to be a breach of security please contact the Production Manager. Please ensure when entering or exiting the event site that once you have passed through you close the gate behind you to prevent members of the general public accessing site.NextFinally... YOU are responsible for your works/working area, and in particular, ensuring that they do not harm others. If you are not happy with the actions of others, or how it affects your workspace, raise it with the Production Team. Do not commence work onsite until you have been fully briefed by the Production Manager. This ensures we keep you and others safe whilst on our site.
